Olive oil production in Panicale and the Trasimeno area has ancient roots dating back to the Etruscans. Our story begins with an act of courage. It was 1949; Italy was emerging wounded from the war, and those who worked the land\u2014often not their own\u2014struggled merely to survive. - In 1949, in Panicale, a group of farmers decided to join forces to change their destiny. In the green heart of the hills embracing Lake Trasimeno, in Panicale, everything began with an act of courage. It was 1949; Italy was emerging wounded from the war, and those who worked the land\u2014often not their own\u2014struggled merely to survive. Private oil mills, controlled by wealthy landowners, imposed unsustainable conditions on local families <\/p>\n
A group of farmers decided to deprive themselves of the little they possessed to give life to something revolutionary: La Panicalese<\/strong><\/em>, the first cooperative of the entire Umbria region<\/p>\n
“It was an act of faith in the future. Of conviction that doing together meant doing better, that labor could be a tool for social redemption.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
The ‘Oil Mill’, as they called it in Olmini (a hamlet of Panicale, where the oil mill is located), quickly became not only the reference milling facility for this enterprise, but the symbol of a won bet.<\/p>\n
“Even the landowners, those who once held the monopoly, began bringing their olives to the cooperative.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Having overcome economic difficulties and political battles, in 1952 the cooperative took the name Oleificio Cooperativo ‘Il Progresso’<\/strong>. ‘That handful of dreamers full of ideals had the certainty that together we could build something better’. \u201cLa vetrina sull\u2019olio,\u201d the largest event dedicated to \u201cgreen gold,\u201d is taking place in Panicale<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The idea was born to create an event entirely dedicated to Trasimeno Extra Virgin Olive Oil but also to ancient Umbrian flavors for those who prefer the combination of taste and tradition, as well as for the curious and enthusiasts who want to better understand the fascinating world of olive oil. The name of the festival is Pan\u2019Olio and, since its first edition in 2015, it has been held every year in Panicale around the end of October, organized by the cooperative with the contribution and patronage of local entities and institutions. <\/p>\n
